Lymphatic System

Picture
Organs & Components
  • Bone Marrow
  • Lymph Ducts & Nodes
  • Spleen
  • Thymus
  • Tonsils

Organ Structure & Function
  • Bodily fluids are filtered and bacteria are dissolved at the lymph nodes.
  • Stimulation and contracting the muscles helps to pump the lymph fluid throughout the lymph ducts
  • The basic function of the lymphatic system is to bring the fluids from the outer tissues back to the circulatory systems.
  • Parts of the lymphatic system are situated in different parts of the  body. The main places where the lymph nodes are located are the armpits, groin and neck.
  • The bone marrow, blood vessel walls, and spleen manufacture, grow and store lymphocytes (white blood cells), which help the body defend against viruses and infections.

Relationship to Other System
The lymphatic system facilitates the movement of water, minerals, bacteria and waste by-products from the tissues and carries them to the arteries and veins.
